My okra plants have finally taken off. I have 4 rows and they need picking just about every day. I have a great recipe for canning them so they taste just like fresh picked okra when I fry them. I have regular clemson spineless and burgandy okra.

Strange sight

This dirt dauber has a mud nest going up on the door into my basement. I never tear their nests down. They dispose of spiders. They catch them live, put them into the mud tunnel with the young dauber larve to eat. This one was having a bit of trouble getting this one up the door facing. The spider was a chubby one!

Bad Day!!

My dingy dog found a rabbits nest in the front field in front of my house. She crippled one killed one in the nest and injured one. I brought the injured one in but
I knew it was not good. I wrapped the little thing in a cloth and held it so it wouldn't die alone. Took about 10 minutes.

I have never wanted to strangle a dog more than I did today. This dog is kind of crazy. She loves to kill and eat things. I don't know why she just "killed" these little creatures. I don't like her at all right now.

I have the one she crippled. It doesn't have any use of it's back legs. But, 'Bootie" is doing well. I don't know if it is he or she, but for now, I will call it, she.

She loves lettuce from my garden and apples. She seems to be doing good except she can't walk.
I will make her a large cage and she will have a safe place to live out her days with us.

Mellow Yellow Monday

Monday, July 13, 2009

My little "friends" at their home. They are busy all over the place.
It has been dry and they have not made much honey.
With the rain we've had, I hope they can make enough to get through
the winter.

Cloudy and pleasant Saturday

I got up this morning and it was a little cloudy.
I don't mind cloudy, in fact it was a good day to get in the
garden without burning up.

That didn't happen. Had other things to get done.
We have been dry for about a week now. So about noon, we got a small shower.
Not much but it was better than nothing. I'm sure the plants are loving it.

I have found a site that is just wonderful. It is called bagsbyannieg.com
She is a fabulous seamstress. She makes different things. You just need to go
to her site and shop, shop, shop. She does a very professional job on her items.

Green Persimmon

Spaghetti Squash. This is a strange vegetable but delicious.

Butternut squash. New one for me.

An heirloom pea from my grandmother. We have kept this seed going for over 50 years.
I don't really know the official name of it but we call it "appaloosa" pea.
It grows about a foot long and the vines are enormous. They are delicious too.

My "Big Bertha" bell pepper. After 20 years
of growing bell peppers, I am finally going to
harvest a pepper.

My "new" potatoes. They are very good with fresh green beans.

My Bumble Bee friend

I love these little things and they love my sunflowers.

I think bees and sunflowers should be in every garden.

Small guests in the Garden

This beauty visited on my fence one day. I thought it was injured and crept closer. It sat for a few photos and then flew off.
I don't even know what it is. I've never seen one like this before.

Simple beauty!

I love "bumble bees"! They are amazing to watch.
They LOVE the sunflowers!!!

My beautiful little bee friend. This is wild butterfly weed. There are dozens of bees on this at any time.

This visitor just stood there and stared me down.
He seemed to be telling me that I was in HIS garden.

These are called 'Walking onions".
They are fun for kids to grow.

When they start to make "heads" they begin to
look like something from the sea.

As the heads mature the little bulblets start to
take shape.

This shows the individual bulbs that you can plant
or put in your favorite dishes like you would garlic or onions. They are very delicious.

Today was a very pleasant day. I was inside most of the day. I really wanted to be out in the gardens, weeding and watering. I had too many meetings to gt out much.
