RAIN!!!

We have had enough rain already. It averages about half an inch every three days. Can't get into the gardens to pull weeds and they LOVE the rain. It is getting ugly in there.

We have over 100 tomato plants out and between the temperature and the rain, they are just sitting there. I guess we will have late tomatoes. I just hope they don't rot. The ground is pure mud in most of the garden.

Come July and August we will burn up and there will be no rain. Sometimes i just don't think it is worth the effort. But, we will probably keep doing this and keep complaining every year. That is what we do, I guess.

My new greenhouse!!

I went to Fred's store and bought a little greenhouse. It is about 28 inches tall and about 20 inches wide.
I put my orcids that have made it so far in the greenhouse hoping to keep them alive until summer. I originally had 19 and have 8 left. I even bought the ones that are VERY easy to raise. I think that is false advertising. None of them are easy. I will try to get them through the winter as best as I can.

Anyway, I'm going to put my seed starter trays in the house and start some flowers and veggies  to go in my backyard gardens. I'm really itching to get in the dirt.

Zoey

The latest addition to my garden of grandchildren.
Zoey arrived 3 weeks early on November 30th.
She is the "apple" of her daddy's eye and MY little "pixie".

Small guests in the Garden

This beauty visited on my fence one day. I thought it was injured and crept closer. It sat for a few photos and then flew off.
I don't even know what it is. I've never seen one like this before.

I love "bumble bees"! They are amazing to watch.

My beautiful little bee friend. This is wild butterfly weed. There are dozens of bees on this at any time.

This visitor just stood there and stared me down.
He seemed to be telling me that I was in HIS garden.

A few showers today. Clear tomorrow and for the first of the week.
Okra and peas are going in Wednesday.

The potatoes are beautiful and blooming. The beans and peas are up and looking good.


Sugar snap peas are blooming up a storm.

If you have never planted a garden, now is the time to do it. With prices rising and pay checks disappearing, you can save a lot of money by growing your own veggies.

There are a lot of web sites out there with a lot of help on anything you need or want to know about growing things. I have a list of some of my favorite sites at the bottom of this blog. Check them out.

Ask questions, make your list, get your supplies and get digging. The kids will have fun if you get them involved too. They will see where their food comes from. It is a great family adventure. The kids will love it and may even eat more veggies if they grow them themselves.

The garden has begun!

The garden is started. Lettuce, onions, mustard, radishes, cucumbers, Sugar snap peas, bell pepper, cayenne pepper and flowers are growing well.

The blueberries and strawberries are coming along nicely too. If the weather would make up it's mind, everything would be just fine.

The potatoes are up and looking good too.
Green beans and peas will go in, the end of April.
Okra, zucchini, and squash will go in the first of June.
Gourds will go in the next week.

Then it's wait and see. I just hope the deer and rabbits leave me some.
