Iris is the state flower of Tennessee.
When they are finished blooming, I will divide and move them to other beds. They transplant very well.

Spring Beauties

The green plants are Ginseng. They grow in our woods.

The Yellow Lady's Slipper is my favorite wild flower. It is also protected by law against wild harvesting.

My Clematis vines are going wild. The blooms on this one are 6 1/2" to 7" wide!

Herbs in pots. The mints are invasive so they stay in posts to control them.

The stacked post are my "tipsy pots". Saw it on
Martha Stewart. Great way to garden vertically.

My bee hive. They are working overtime. A good friend of mine loaned the hive to me for
the summer. I wanted them to pollenate my fruit trees and garden veggies.
I made a watering hole for the bees and butterflies out of an old pizza pan. There are 2 rocks
in the pan for them to light on. The bees love it. They are drinking all the time.

My lettuce, green onions, mustard, spinach
and sugar snap peas.

We had a cook-out Saturday and had the
mustard, lettuce and onions with bacon grease
and crumbled bacon. Ummmmm good!

Can't wait for the sugar snap peas. They are
truly sweet and I eat them raw.

If you have never planted a garden, now is the time to do it. With prices rising and pay checks disappearing, you can save a lot of money by growing your own veggies.

There are a lot of web sites out there with a lot of help on anything you need or want to know about growing things. I have a list of some of my favorite sites at the bottom of this blog. Check them out.

Ask questions, make your list, get your supplies and get digging. The kids will have fun if you get them involved too. They will see where their food comes from. It is a great family adventure. The kids will love it and may even eat more veggies if they grow them themselves.

Give it a try and "happy gardening"!

The garden has begun!

April 15, 2009
The garden is started. Lettuce, onions, mustard, radishes, cucumbers, Sugar snap peas, bell pepper, cayenne pepper and flowers are growing well.

The blueberries and strawberries are coming along nicely too. If the weather would make up it's mind, everything would be just fine.

The potatoes are up and looking good too.
Green beans and peas will go in, the end of April.
Okra, zucchini, and squash will go in the first of June.
Gourds will go in the next week.

Then it's wait and see. I just hope the deer and rabbits leave me some.
